Choosing a perfume is a bit like choosing a signature—it should reflect who you are. Maria shares her best tips on how to find the perfect scent for you.

1. The scent changes on your skin

Perfumes consist of top notes, middle notes, and base notes. The top notes are the first ones you smell; they’re often fresh and light, but they fade quickly. The middle notes develop after a while and give the perfume its character, while the base notes last the longest and blend with your skin. Since everyone has unique skin chemistry (influenced by factors such as pH level and body temperature), the scent becomes unique to you.

2. Your skin type matters

Oily skin can intensify the scent and make it last longer, while dry skin can sometimes cause the fragrance to fade more quickly. That’s why it’s a good idea to moisturize your skin before applying your perfume—it helps the scent cling to your skin and develop more evenly.

3. Heat enhances the aroma

Perfume works best on warm areas where blood circulation is high, such as the wrists, neck, and behind the ears. There, the fragrance molecules are released more effectively, making the scent more noticeable.

4. The Sense of Smell and Emotions

Scent is closely linked to the brain’s memory and emotional centers. That’s why certain perfumes can evoke strong memories or emotions. When choosing a perfume, pay attention to how it makes you feel—it can be a good guide.

5. Give the perfume time to develop on your skin

A perfume can smell completely different in the bottle than it does on your skin. Test it on your wrist and wait at least 20–30 minutes. Only then will the deeper notes emerge, and you’ll get a sense of how the perfume develops on you.

6. Start with your personality and style

Are you energetic and love freshness? Then citrus or green notes might be right for you. Do you like elegance and warmth? Try oriental or woody scents. Your perfume should feel like an extension of your style.

7. Seize the moment

Many people choose different scents for different occasions. A light, fresh fragrance might be perfect for work or daytime wear, while a more intense scent can enhance evenings and parties

8. Trust your instincts

The most important thing: you should love your scent. The best perfume isn’t the one that’s trending the most, but the one that makes you feel like yourself ✨
