When the sun is shining brightly, it’s important to protect children’s sensitive skin from harmful rays. Sunscreen is a must, but we know it can be a challenge to get everyone in the family to apply it. Here are some smart tips to make applying sunscreen a more enjoyable experience.
There are many different types of sunscreen—which one is best for your child?
- Lotion – A classic sunscreen provides good, full coverage, but many children find it sticky. A clever trick to make applying it more fun is to use a makeup brush or sponge. Gently dab the sunscreen onto the brush and use it to apply a light, even layer to your child’s skin. Easy, fun, and playful!
- Spray – Quick and easy to apply, but it can be difficult to control the amount and see where you’ve already sprayed.
- Roll-on – A smart solution for both parents and kids. Madeleine’s favorite! Roll-on sunscreens are easy to use and provide even coverage. Many kids enjoy applying it themselves, and it’s also perfect for small areas like the face and ears.
- Sunscreen with SPF for sensitive skin – If your child has sensitive skin, choose a sunscreen that is specially formulated for sensitive skin. These are often gentler on the skin.
Keep in mind
- High sun protection factor (preferably SPF 50) – Children’s skin is more sensitive than adults’, so it’s important to choose sunscreen with a high SPF to provide the best possible protection.
- Water-resistant sunscreen – If you and your child are going swimming, choose a water-resistant sunscreen. It provides better protection when your child comes into contact with water.
- Apply well in advance – Sunscreen should be applied 20–30 minutes before your child goes out into the sun to give it time to work properly.
Good luck!
